The journey from reclamation to firing is one of renewal and permanence

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 2004 and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Sophia Sprick’s artistic practice explores clay work as a process of purpose, use, and intention. She is a ceramic and sculptural artist that primarily creates functional, wheel-thrown pottery, embracing the materiality of clay. Her ceramic art explores the intimacy of touch, interaction, visual communication, and the quiet dialogue between maker and object. She is largely guided by clay as a medium drawing inspirations from each step of the material’s transformative journey. For her, clay is more than a medium; it is a vessel of transformation.

Sophia is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and Critical Ethnic Studies, with a minor in Anthropology at Kalamazoo College. Her multidisciplinary studies continue to inform her artistic approach, as she situated herself within personal, cultural, communal, and historical narratives along with individuals around her. During winter of 2025 she completed a term at the New York Arts program, furthering her involvement and understanding of the art world.
